Slow Down To The Speed Of Now

um-090512-emailMy friend Jan Maples used this phrase in a conversation with me a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve been noticing how impactful this is in living a fulfilled life. So I began to pay attention to what’s available when I used this idea. And then it condensed into:


Slow down kind of mitigates the notion of immediate if you define immediate as hurry up! But if you think a little longer, you may like me, appreciate the intersection of the words. Slow down is self-evident, now is immediate.

SLOWING DOWN NOW allows you to:

  1. Consider your fulfillment before you make a choice.
  2. Recognize that it’s not too late to start now.
  3. Speak words that move you and others forward.
  4. Let words remain unspoken that don’t.
  5. Consider what’s possible instead of what’s wrong.
  6. Fix what’s wrong or move on.
  7. Do what fulfills you first thing every morning before work, email, phone calls or it’s one more day where you complain about not having time.
  8. Make time.

I started with #8. I’m making time to do what fulfills me. I get up earlier to do it. I prepare the night before so I don’t have to think about it. I lay out my running gear, shoes, and iPhone. I skip the extra glass of distilled spirits the night before! I hit the road breathing deeply, and consider my good fortune to do something I love to do each day. read more
